Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Program

The City of Los Angeles, Department on Disability provides assistance to residents in need of durable medical equipment for in-home use at no charge.

We would like to inform you that, as of September 17, 2023, our Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Program will be temporarily paused due to a lack of available funding. Throughout this pause, we are dedicated to continuing to provide outstanding service and support to our valued partners and applicants.

Updates

While the program is on hold, please note the following:

  • Application Submission: We will continue to accept DME program applications during this pause. Our team will be regularly monitoring incoming applications. The preferred method of submission is via email at DOD-DME@lacity.org. In addition, you are welcome to mail the application to our office at:
    • 201 N. Figueroa St. Ste. 100, Los Angeles, CA 90012 Attn: DME Program
    • We also welcome walk-in applications at the same address.
    • Please note, parking validation is not provided.
  • Communication: Our dedicated team will still be available to address any questions, concerns, or inquiries you may have. You can reach us at:

    • We aim to provide prompt responses to all inquiries.
  • Application Processing: Please be aware that application processing times may be slightly extended during this period. Rest assured, we will prioritize processing applications as efficiently as possible once the program resumes. 
    • If you have submitted a DME application, please verify that income verification is submitted, and one item was selected.
  • Updates: Check our DME website for development updates of our program.

The request form will be reviewed upon completion. Once submitted, a DOD staff member will contact you once the application is reviewed within 10-15 business days. Equipment is subject to approval. If approval is granted, we will add the approved application to our delivery list and resume home deliveries once the program restarts. Items may be delivered by DOD contracted partners.

By completing the Durable Medical Equipment Assistance Request Fillable Form (PDF), you are self-selecting the item(s) for appropriate use.  If additional information is needed to select an appropriate item, please let us know so that we may connect you to the appropriate organization for assistance. 

****For auditing purposes, submit a complete application with proof of income verification for your request to be processed.

What is the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) program?

The DME program works to bridge the mobility gap and provide access to the durable medical equipment needed to assist people in their daily living or in their recovery from an illness or injury. There are many people living in Los Angeles who are elderly, have physical limitations, or who have become disabled due to illness or injury that have limited or no access to wheelchairs, walkers, or other durable medical equipment that they need to assist in their daily lives. The gift of a wheelchair, cane, or walker can make a huge difference in someone’s life if it enables them to participate in activities with family and their community once again.
